I've been Pickled!
*dances around kitchen*
For those of you who haven't discovered this online international poetry journal yet, you are in for a treat. Created by poets, Dimitra Xidous and Patrick Chapman, The Pickled Body is as much a visual feast as a literary one and that, of course, tickles me in all the right places. Each issue is based around a theme and marries the best of contemporary poetry with a modern art aesthetic.
The theme of the first issue of The Pickled Body, The Red Shoes - inspired equally by the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, the film by Powell and Pressburger and the album by Kate Bush - featured specially commissioned artwork by Ria Czerniak and poetry by Billy Ramsell, Afric McGlinchey, Kevin Higgins, Kimberly Campanello and others.
The new issue, Amuse-Bouche, showcases mouth-watering food photography and the work of chefs invited to create an amuse-bouche inspired by the poetry of Lorca, Duffy, Ginsberg, and Creeley. A feast for the senses featuring new work by Alvy Carragher, Geoffrey Gatza, Karl Parkinson, Jessica Traynor and more.
The call for submissions for Issue 1.3: Bull is open until May 15.
Amuse-Bouche will be launched at the Ranelagh Arts Centre, Dublin on April 12th from 2pm, with music, refreshments and featured poets dropping morsels of literary sweetmeats into your weary and ravenous souls. More details to follow.
Come down and have your fill.
